Looking tidy
It's just over a year since work started on creating a new church from an old building. I was at the site today after the morning service and it's amazing to see how things have changed in that time. Above all I see evidence that God is good to us.
This photo is how things look now. This past week there has again been a team from the church working on site and Mr. Henry, the builder, has been in and done a whole pile of tidying up. The best things is that he's put down gravel from just inside the site entrance to the front door of the church. Even so, I still managed to bring some mud home with me.
Here we have the window that will let light into the smaller hall in the old building that we intend to use for the youth on a Sunday morning. A couple of comfy couches and some of their own artwork will hopefully make it "their space". It'll probably also be used for smaller meetings in the week.
Since my last visit the majority of the work that remained to do on the roof has been finished. The skylights have been fitted and the rest of the tiles placed. I really need to clean the window that I take these shots through...
And this is how the skylights look from the inside. Although the hall was already quite bright having windows in the roof gives it a particularly airy feel.
Apparently the holes for the skylights were cut with a chain saw and those working in the building that day thought it was snowing... again. The roof panels have a layer of polystyrene for insulation, when the holes were cut liberated polystyrene balls floated gently to the ground.
Finally, here is some of the fruit of the labours of the team that have been at the building over the last few weeks. This is some of the cabling for the electricity and for the sound system. We decided that it would be good to have plenty of plug sockets on the principle that you can never have too many. It seems to be that if you have too few they're also always in the wrong place. We shall not have that problem. I've been told that there is even going to be a little recessed box in the floor at the front with XLR plugs for microphones. Nice.
I'm not really sure why but it was quite exciting going to the site this morning. I felt like I was walking round a building rather than a building site. I hope that we'll be in before the end of this year - God willing.
